Guilty Pleasures Movies

I have a few movies that are not the greatest movies in the world. Yet, I still get a kick out of these movies EVERY time I watch them.

And the movies are (drumroll please)...

#1 Mannequin. I know. It's a silly 80's movie that plays more like an MTV music video. It has a silly plot. But I still dig it!

#2 Austin Powers. The sequels are far too crude for me. The first movie has too many crude moments too. But I just can't get over Dr. Evil and his relationship with his son. I think it is so silly!

Take the following dialogue for instance:

Scott (the son): "He's trying to kill me!"
Counselor: "He's not really trying to kill you. Though we all feel that way sometimes."
Other Fathers and Sons in the Group Counseling Session: (little chuckles and nods of agreement.)
Dr. Evil: "No, he's quite astute. I really am trying to kill him."

I love it!

#3 Splash. This one goes back to my childhood. I used to imagine that I took a "rubber molding" class in college (something along the lines of woodshop or welding). In my imagination, I was able to create my own rubber mermaid tail which I could then wear in my very own home pool after I aced the class. In reality, there is no such class, as you all know, and the homemade rubber mermaid tail remained only in my imagination. However, that didn't stop me from learning how to swim like a mermaid (without the use of my hands, by keeping my arms at my side and by keeping my legs together while I flip them like fins). I'm still a pro at it. No kidding.

#4 The RM. I hate (HATE, HATE, HATE) the movie "What About Bob?" It just drives me crazy! Everything goes wrong for Dr. Leo Marvin in that movie and I just want to shake Bob for tormenting him so much. So, you'd think I'd hate The RM because everything goes wrong for him. But I love it! I think it's because I think Kirby Heybourne is so silly.

#5 The Brady Bunch Movie. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! Do I have to say anything else?

#6 The Rutles. Very few people even know what this movie is. It is a spoof about the Beatles. It tells of the rise and fall of a fictional band called The Rutles (and it very, very closely resembles the story and people of Beatles fame). It even has music. Songs such as "Hold My Hand," "With a Girl Like You," "Ouch," "Love Life," "Get Up and Go," and "Let's Be Natural" sound so eerily like some of the Beatles songs it always makes me laugh. I even bought the soundtrack. The movie is made by the Monty Python gang. It even features George Harrison. Initially, John Lennon was angry about the movie when it came out, but after watching it, it became one of his own guilty pleasures. It's pretty silly.

#7 Sons of Provo. This is another fictional band spoof. This is the story of the Boy Band "Everclean." I have the soundtrack to this one too. One of my favorite songs? "Love Me, But Don't Show Me."

It includes the following lyrics:

"These two weeks together have been the sweetest of my life, My heart's prayer was answered when you agreed to be my wife. Your love's like a cancer, girl, cuz I got no resistance, There's only one answer girl: You got to keep your distance!

Chorus: Love me, but don't show me. I want our wedding night to be right. Miss me, but don't kiss me. If we start to makin' out girl, You won't be wearin' white.

You make me feel so handsome, like a shining dark stallion, I love the way you wear your young women's medallion. You know girl, I love you, but I hope you comprehend, This body is a Temple - and you don't got no recommend.

Chorus

I will see you Dressed in white without falter. Our first love's kiss will Be over the Altar.

After each date with you, I'll fight with all my might, To treat you like a gentleman, and shake your hand goodnight. I'll breathe in your perfume; it's fillin' up my lungs, But don't you even start to try to use the gift of tongues.

Chorus"

My final guilty pleasure movie...

#8 Dracula, Dead and Loving It. I know, I know. It's no Young Frankenstein. But I love it. I love to watch it every Halloween while I carve pumpkins. If I even told you some of my favorite quotes from this movie, you'd probably think I was an imbecile. But I still love it.

Anyone else want to share any of their guilty pleasures movies?

  1. I think all of my movies are guilty pleasure movies. Home Alone, 13 going on 30, The Holiday.
But really deep down I even like to watch tween movies like Aquamarine and the Sleep over. Ha ha. Oh yeah I even enjoyed watching the Cutting Edge part 3. I'm the queen of lame movies. Just ask Emily.

Now as to your fantasy about Splash, there actually are rubber mold making classes in college. I am just sad you gave up on your dream without even trying.

  2. What about "Big Business?" That is one of Denise's. I remember Scott begging me not to loan her that movie.

I have no guilty pleasure movies. I'm high class taste all the way. :)

  3. Back when I used to have spare time, I would watch "Sidekicks." Jonathan Brandis, Joe Piscopo, Chuck Norris... really stupid, but really entertaining. My family always liked "Surf Ninjas" too, with Rob Schneider and Leslie Nielson. Man, I need to get those on DVD...
