Above: Church-going: idealistic view.
For those of you out there who are the parents of young children, you know that church can be rough (to say the least). Before church became super tough, I told Jeremiah that we needed to have a list of reasons that we went to church. We could use this list as a teaching tool for our children if they ever asked us why we went to church. I also knew that we would need to cling to this list on Sundays when church was particularly rough.
I would like to share this list with you.
Reasons We Go To Church:
- Keep the commandments (Keep the Sabbath Day holy).
- Consecrate our time to the Lord.
- Serve in our church callings.
- Support those who serve in their church callings.
- Partake of the Sacrament.
- Set an example for our children.
- Be worthy of a temple recommend (in order to have a recommend, you have to strive to attend your church meetings).
- Show our love to Heavenly Father and Jesus.
- To learn (when we actually can hear over our children!).
- To feel the Spirit (this can actually happen even when we can't always hear over our children.)
I tell you, this list has come in handy for me when church-going has been rough with my kids. I hope it helps you too. And if it doesn't, at least I have it written down now!

Above: Church-going reality.
It will pay dividends, not just in this lifetime but the next.
ReplyDeleteAs bad as it may get, it's really only 3 hours of the week...not a lot to give back to the Lord. And you can stand anything for 3 hours.
Your testimony really can dim if you miss again and again. There is a spiritual cost.
Enjoy the fellowship of the saints.
Oh, and I loved the pictures! Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI think every mom with young kids gets to experience the "joys" of foyer sitting! I love your list. What a great way to remember the reasons for doing what we are doing!
ReplyDeleteLaurie just told me about being able to call her home teacher when she was stranded with a baby on the side of the road on the way to a pediatrician appointment. This brother took off work to come and help her. It makes me cry just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteTHE CHURCH IS TRUE! The Lord knew how difficult this would be and we need each other. We can't get through it any other way.
I am so grateful for all that membership in the church has given me....especially now that I am past those hard Sunday's with little kids. They do pass. Hang on. It's worth it!
