All of my life it seems that I have been lovingly teased by my family members because I tend to be a few years behind the times. For instance, my love of cassette tapes kept me from seeing the true beauty and usefulness of CDs. I had a huge collection of cassettes which I ended up buying as CDs a few years later anyway. Don't even make fun of the fact that my first CD was "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart. My sister, Laurie, once upon a time teased me because I titled a CD of music from the 90's as "Contemporary Music." She pointed out to me that I was the only one who referred to 90's music that way. Thanks to my sister, Laurie, and my brother, Clayton, I have kept reasonably up to date with the music scene (though I am probably still a few years behind). Oh, and the only reason I am "hip" now with an I-Pod is because my husband insisted on buying me one for our first Valentine's Day.
I held on to my pen and paper and eschewed emails for years...until I was forced to use email for college. Then, of course, I had to admit that it was convenient.
My brother, Sean, mocked my first cell phone because it didn't have a color screen. Then, of course, by the time I finally got a cell phone with a color screen, it was behind the times too because it couldn't send and receive pictures. Now, my husband is badgering me about my ancient cell phone as well. Ahhh well.
The tradition continues as I am only now starting a blog. Yes, me, Sarah Elizabeth Mackay Washburn. I am starting my own blog--and according to a quick google search, it appears that since the first blog was started in 1997, I am only 12 years behind the times!
I hope you will all enjoy the tales of my hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly adventures!
