June, Part 6: Trip to Denver, Colorado (Day Four)

One of the main reasons we went on this trip was as a Father's Day present to Jeremiah. He just needed a break and wanted to get out of town for Father's Day this year. So, on our fourth day of the trip (Sunday and Father's Day), we had another action-packed day!

Above: We started the day by going to the History Colorado museum. This place was so much fun. What an eclectic museum!

Above: Oh, look! An outhouse!

Above: Pete!? What were you doing in there?

Above: Johnny is a very careful driver.

Above: Nothing like bum compartments on a buffalo.

Above: Dan is a good little miner.

Above: Practicing our ski jump technique.

Above: I just thought it was super crazy and random how this dress was put on a zombie mannequin.

Above: I was really excited to see the Awkward Family Photos exhibit. It didn't disappoint. Ha ha!

Above: The exhibit was decorated like an outdated kitschy family room. I loved it!

Above: The walls were decorated with awkward family photos such as this one. Ha ha ha! Who thought that pose was a good idea? Looks comfortable, doesn't it? He's very flexible though.

Above: Then they had backdrops so that you could create your own awkward family photos. Photo credit goes to Peter. I was doing my best to recreate our favorite Studio C Mona Lisa smile expression.

Above: This guy is too cute to be awkward. Even if he is riding a pony in the forest while wearing a lei.

Above: The Mona Lisa smile again. Jeremiah thinks we are doing a disservice to our children and not educating them on what Mona Lisa's smile actually looks like. Ha ha.

Above: What in the world? A snowboarding baby?

Above: Snowboarding, pony riding, fishing with just his hands Pete.

Above: Old-timey awkward family photos.

Above: I just had to buy this game as my trip souvenir for us to play when we returned home.

Above: After the History Colorado museum, we took the kids to the Children's Museum of Denver. The kids loved it. One of the reasons we went here is because we were driving around everywhere trying to find a restaurant to get the kids some food. We couldn't find anything. (Seriously, McDonald's where were you when we needed you?) We figured that the children's museum would have food. They had a small snack shop, but it wasn't enough to really satisfy the kids' bellies. We thought about going to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science next, but we didn't think they would have food. The kids had so much fun at the children's museum though, so we are glad we got to visit it.

Above: Peter is one territorial rodent.

Above: Dan was just glad to be there!

Above: They had a really fun water section.

Above: They also had a baby's only section that was just too cute for words. Dan fit right in!

Above: Look at that little pose!

Above: After the children's museum, we decided to make a quick stop at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. When we got there, Dan and Johnny had both fallen asleep and the museum had only 45 minutes until closing time. Jeremiah stayed out in the van and relaxed with the sleeping boys while Pete and I made a whirlwind visit to the museum. Holy cow. How I wish we had planned more time for this museum. It reminded me of the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C. It was so cool...and so huge. 45 minutes did NOT do it justic. We could have spent the whole day here. Oh, and of course, there was a giant food court with pretty much every kind of food you could think of. D'oh! Well, you live, you learn. The next time I am in Denver, this is going to be one of the focal points and we will be spending a lot more time here. I was really sad that Jeremiah, Johnny, and Dan didn't get to see it. It was seriously awesome.

Above: Peter was a good little model and took a ton of pictures for me so we could show off our short time at the museum.

Above: Mona Lisa face or being attacked face? Not quite sure. Ha ha.

Above: Seriously, this museum had everything.

Above: On our way home from the science museum, we stopped by the Denver, Colorado Temple.

Above: This time, Pete stayed in the car and Johnny stretched his legs.

Above: I sure love my sweet Johnny!

We had a really busy Sunday. It was a good father's day, but it was super busy and we were glad to head back to the hotel. We got dinner at IHOP (by our hotel) and then had a relaxing night swimming and hanging out in our hotel room.
