October 2012 Part 3

Let the parade of pictures from October continue!

Above: To celebrate our fifth anniversary (which was on October 18th), we took a little overnight trip to Park City with the boys. When Jeremiah checked in to the hotel, they had printed up a piece of paper and framed it stating that Jeremiah was their platinum guest of the day (or something like that). Oh, if only they knew that it wasn't just Jeremiah that the were welcoming to the hotel! The boys were really excited, but we didn't get to the hotel until about an hour later than we had planned due to Peter forgetting his blue blankie, and us having to go back home to get it. He wouldn't have slept well without it. However, when we finally DID check in, the boys thought the hotel room was SO cool.

Above: The boys thought this chair was awesome. The only thing that could have made this chair more awesome for me? If there had been two of them, because the boys kept fighting over it.

Above: Of course, the boys had to jump back and forth between the two beds. Jonathan couldn't do it because he was too little, but he had a fun time watching Peter do it.  After jumping on the beds for a bit, we went for a swim in the hotel pool. The boys had a lot of fun with their Dad. Mom was just grateful that the pool wasn't as cold as most of the pools usually are.

Above: Nothing like cuddling down in a hotel bed for a long night of alternately kicking and cuddling Mom.

Above: The boys woke up really early (a little after 6 a.m., which for them is an hour to an hour and a half earlier than usual). The boys woke up NOISY too. We were at a loss as to what to do. We couldn't get them to quiet down. They didn't want to watch TV. All they wanted to do was make noise...a LOT of it. Peter also wanted to go swimming, but I was worried that then we would have cranky and hungry boys on our hands as soon as we were done. So, instead of going swimming again, we got everyone dressed and packed up as quickly as we could. We discovered the hard way throughout our time in Park City (less than 24 hours) that there are a lot of uptight, snooty old people in Park City who don't take too kindly to rambunctious little boys. We had gotten dirty looks from guests in the lobby on our way to the pool last night and we were really worried about the guests in the adjacent rooms complaining to the desk because of our noisy boys. Anyway, we headed to the nearest McDonald's for breakfast ASAP. However, since nothing in Park City really opens up before 10 a.m., we had a lot of time to kill. We found this little playground in the midst of the Tanger Outlet stores and played with the boys here for a bit. In hindsight (and what we will do in the future), it would have been wiser to have had Jeremiah take the boys swimming while I ran out and picked up breakfast. We could have then eaten it in our hotel room after the boys had gotten out some of their energy by swimming, and then we could have taken a little more time to get things packed up. You live, you learn! Next time, we'll do it right!

Above: Here is Peter at the Olympic Park. We explored a little bit outside before it opened up at 10 a.m.

Above: Daddy and Johnny in front of the ski jump pool thing...you would have to ask Jeremiah for more information than that about what they are standing in front of. :)

Above: I'm sad that we missed the full glory of the autumn leaves in Park City. However, you could see glimpses here and there of how beautiful the leaves must have been at their prime.

Above: Peter hanging out in a bobsled.

Above: Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time! Cool Runnings!

Above: Checking out the ski museum at the Olympic Park.

Above: Proof that Utah really does have the greatest snow on earth.

Above: See? You can't beat Utah's powder. Take that, Sierra cement!

Above: The museum had all sorts of fun skiing simulations and games.

Above: He's so big and so little!

Above: Jonathan and Daddy in front of some fun pictures where they put skiers into some non-snowy Utah environments. After checking out the ski museum, we went upstairs to check out the museum that was dedicated to the Olympics. It had all sorts of fun Olympic collectible pins, medals, and snooty people who gave us dirty looks. :)

Above: After the Olympic Park, we went to the Park City museum on Main Street. Peter, Daddy, and Jonathan got to sit in a train that had a video about the history of mining in Park City. The basement of the museum talked about mining and it was also an honest to goodness historical jail that had old jail cells that you could go into and check out. No worries, people actually DIED in that jail back in the day!

Above: Uh-oh. I don't know if Dad should be trusted with detonating a bomb. He looks a little too happy about it, don't you think?

Above: Just riding on a train with Daddy.

Above: Peter is only cooperating with the pictures at this point so that he can get a toy from the gift shop when we leave.

Above: Can I get a toy NOW?

Above: I know I'm crazy, but I just couldn't resist reenacting this pose of this lovely young woman from the 50's who is dressed as an atom bomb and seems pleased as pie about it.

Above: "I'm being really nice. Can I get that toy yet?"

Above: Jonathan is giving me smiles whether he gets a souvenir or not! What a cutie!

Above: Jeremiah cheerfully warning of the dangers of fallout.

Above: Peter actually wanted to take this picture and was happy to smile for it too. However, he wouldn't stand to the side of the sign. He wanted to be right in front of it.

Above: After we visited the Park City museum, we headed home and the boys had some semblance of a nap. After they woke up, I couldn't face cooking (it really had been a rough weekend! Not relaxing like we had hoped it would be...despite what the pictures above might lead you to believe!). So, we went down the mountain and got some Greek food and then went to the park to play for a bit before bedtime.

Above: Ahhhh. Honestly, I needed this sunset after that weekend.

Above: These boys love slides!

Above: It took FOREVER to get a picture of both of the boys on the slide at the same time!

Above: These sweet brothers love each other...even though they can be sassy at times! (Sassy to each other and to their parents!)

Above: The week after our Park City trip was a mellow one. Here are my sweet boys playing pirates...in their diapers, of course (I'm going to go cold turkey with Peter potty training-wise in about a week...I've tried everything with that kid and it is just time to bite the bullet! I'm afraid!).

Above: What a sweet and serious pirate holding his little sword and wearing his pirate booty!

Above: Jonathan loved the feel of these beads around his neck.

Above: Now Jonathan is mixing the professions of pirate and carpenter. I had to let him wear them while I carried him upstairs for his nap. I put him in his crib and left to get his drink. When I came back, he was passed out in his crib and I had to take the necklaces off of him while he slept.

Above: Here is Peter getting back to his costume roots in honor of Halloween!

Above: The week before Halloween, we had our first snowfall.

Above: The boys couldn't wait to get outside and play in the snow, but we had to have breakfast first.

Above: Ninja turtles and snow! YEAH!

Above: "What IS this stuff?"

Above My sweet little snow bunny. This kid loves to play in the snow.

Above: This kid, apparently, is going to be my lodge buddy, because he didn't like the snow so much. I think most of that was due to the fact that he REFUSED to let me put gloves on him, despite my numerous attempts before, during, and afterward. He came inside after being out in the snow for less than 10 minutes. However, he saw all of the fun that Peter was having and decided to give it another go. He went outside again, for less than 10 minutes, and then he was done for the day.

Above: Nothing like a good cup of warm cocoa (hot cocoa is too hot) after playing outside in the cold snow. Of course, my boys stripped down to their diapers as soon as they were done being outside.

Above: The snow melted and then it snowed again the next day. We got more snow the second time around.

Above: Uh-oh. What have I gotten myself into?

Above: It's going to be a long winter!

Luckily, the snow melted pretty fast and it has been quite warm and lovely since then. We had a very nice, and warm Halloween...as you will see in the next post for the conclusion of October 2012!

  1. It's funny how the pictures usually capture the good times and not the bad and the whole trip just looks like so much fun!

Ah, yeah, that snow is going to be tough. :)
