July, Part 3: Celebrating the Fourth

We started off our Fourth of July celebrations by having pizza for lunch at Mimi and Papa's house. They had a pool and a slip and slide for the kids. It's a good thing too, because it was such a HOT day! Everyone told me I would hate being pregnant during the summer. I really hadn't minded the summer...until this day. It was SO hot! I was exhausted by the end of the day (with a heat induced pregnancy headache to boot!). This was the only day where the heat really got to me while being pregnant. Sure, I was chewing on ice like a champ (two to three times a day...Jeremiah would bring me ice from the gas station as a gift on his way home from work...it is so good to chew when you are pregnant) and I was sleeping blanket free every night, but for the most part I was fine. The heat of this day conquered me, however! The kids had a good time anyway though. By the end of the day, everyone was fairly exhausted and wilted and ready to just sit in an air-conditioned house and do nothing else...except maybe eat some ice cream.

Above: Those kids had so much fun running back and forth between the pool and the slip and slide.

Above: This boy of mine absolutely loves Hawaiian pizza. That is a big slice, but you can bet that he finished the whole thing.

Above: Johnny was too busy playing to worry about pizza.

Above: While the kids played in the water, everyone else took it easy in the shade and had a good chat. After I finished taking pictures, I chewed on some ice...and then I went inside to play games on my phone in the air-conditioned house.

Above: After we finished up with the Washburn family, we went to my mom's house for some fantastic burgers, sides, and a smorgasbord of at least seven different kinds of homemade ice cream (fantastic strawberry basil ice cream is pictured). Sadly, I didn't take any pictures of the kids here...I was just too tired! I had my pregnancy/heat induced headache throughout the next day! It was a good day though. Good food, good family, and good memories. It was so nice of Mike and Debra and Mom and Niel to have these family gatherings for us. Good times together.
