July, Part 9: Family Field Trip to Provo

After putting up some extra racks in my master bedroom closet in the morning so that I had enough space for my clothes instead of hanging them in Dan's closet, I decided to take the boys on a whirlwind one-day tour/field trip of Provo.

Above: We started our field trip by driving by to see the Provo City Center Temple. This temple used to be the Provo Tabernacle (I attended a performance of Rob Gardner's Joseph Smith the Prophet which my roommate was performing in while I was a senior at BYU in the Provo Tabernacle). A fire had destroyed the inside of the tabernacle and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints decided to turn it into a temple when they restored it. It's a beautiful building.

Above: Provo was greatly in need of another temple anyway because the Provo Temple is always so busy and the wait to do temple work there is so long.

Above: After driving by the Provo City Center Temple and then driving around campus and pointing out some of the buildings, we visited the BYU Museum of Paleontology.

Above: Peter sure loves his baby brother, Dan.

Above: We got to see some of the students working on the fossils. That was pretty cool.

Above: "Wait! Don't touch!"

Above: You can see how quickly Peter removed his hand after I reminded him he couldn't touch. Ha ha.

Above: Johnny dutifully folding his arms so he doesn't touch the exhibit by accident.

Above: That is one little Dan inside a giant T-Rex's mouth!

Above: Next we visited the BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures.

Above: Dan sure is a happy smiley guy!

Above: There's so much to laugh and smile about in life!

Above: Then I showed the boys the Provo Temple.

Above: After the Provo Temple, we stopped at the BYU Creamery and bought some popsicles. We can't get ice cream there because of Peter's nut allergies, but we enjoyed the yummy popsicles.

Above: The boys were so good on the field trip to Provo. I'm not going to lie, today was a really, really hard day for me. This had nothing to do with the boys. They were great today. I won't go into the reasons for why this day was so hard right here and now. After our field trip to Provo, we went and had dinner at a park to visit with my sister-in-law, Shandie, and her girls who were in town. On the drive home, I took a path that took us by the Jordan River Temple (which is undergoing some refurbishing and updating). For how hard this day was, I am so grateful for the blessing and opportunity that I had to show my boys three different temples in one day.

Above: I am so grateful for the peace that the gospel brings and for the feeling of peace that is found at each of the Lord's temples. I really needed that added peace today.
