March, Part 3: Trip to California, Day 7

Above: The boys spent the morning of our final day swimming while I packed up our stuff and got ready to go.

Above: It looks like they need to grow into their suits a little more to prevent sagging. Ha ha! Poor Johnny was running by the pool, slipped, and scraped himself up a lot. So, that ended their swimming session at the pool pretty quickly. I took Johnny back to the hotel room, bandaged him up, cleaned him up, and then we got everyone else ready to go so we could head to the airport.

Above: There was a slight mix-up on the way home and although Jeremiah had asked for window seats, we weren't given window seats. I really think this whole flight home would have been much more successful had we had window seats! However, maybe we were doomed from the start. Peter was in an awful and very disobedient mood while we were at the airport and while we ate lunch. It took a lot of effort to keep these guys under control until we got on the plane...but then the boys were so disappointed not to have window seats once we got on. Johnny was still pretty good (though a bit loud and wiggly at times). He was content to watch a show on our DVD player.

Above: Peter, on the other hand, had reached his limit. He started kicking the chair in front of him. The guy in front asked him to stop, and that started a meltdown/tantrum for Pete. We ended up switching Peter and Johnny for the rest of the flight. That put Peter and Jeremiah at odds with each other and the rest of the trip home was a disaster. Once we got back to Utah, we had to wait forever for Jeremiah to get the stroller. The boys were being so sassy. Everyone just needed some space. I was just so disappointed with how it had all ended (and I'm sure pregnancy hormones had a hand in it) that I was fighting back tears at the airport while we were waiting for the tram to pick us up and take us back to our van. I cried silently the whole way home. Traffic was awful on the drive home and shortly after we got home, Jeremiah had to leave to go to a Young Men's activity. I got some food for the boys (they were pretty content to just sit on the couch and play with their Xooms). Then I put away all of our luggage and started on the laundry.

So, it was a pretty dramatic end to our trip...but I would say we had a very successful trip all in all. Lots of good memories were made. I get a little smile on my face when I overhear Johnny humming the theme song to The Haunted Mansion to himself or when he asks if we can go on Pirates of the Caribbean again soon. We probably won't make this trip again for at least two years because I wouldn't take a baby to a theme park...at least not until that baby is at least 18 months old. So, farewell to Disneyland for now. We have lots of other fun trip ideas and places that we want to go until the time comes to go there again though!

  1. Some trips need a little more recuperation time than others! The go, go, go ones are the hardest, but got a lot of good things done!
